"Alice Corp. Case Update - Abstract Ideas Ineligible for Patenting"

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Alice Corp. Pty. Ltd. v. CLS Bank Intern., 134 S. Ct. 2347 (2014), is one of the most significant patent cases in recent years affecting the potential validity of numerous patents, the value of the intellectual property held in many companies, the ability for inventors to obtain patents for their inventions, the impact of the patent troll industry, and the strategies of companies accused of patent infringement.

The presentation will provide an update on the changes in Section 101 jurisprudence following the Alice Corp. decision, including:

·        An overview of the Alice Corp. decision

·        The USPTO’s guidance for patent applicants on its Section 101 review

·        Developments in the post-grant review process

·        The impact on litigation strategies

·        A discussion of notable post-Alice Corp. cases

Additionally, because the Alice Corp. decision will likely affect the buying or selling of company patent assets, we encourage transactional attorneys, professional, venture capitalists and others practicing in these fields to attend this program.
