According to its "National Innovation Policy" and "Patent Development Strategy," China's aim is to transform its “made in China” reputation to a “designed in China” market. Phenomenal growth in patent filing activity in China, new trends in IP litigation and China’s third patent law amendment are significantly impacting foreign companies doing business in China, especially in industries heavily reliant on intellectual property. What are the best ways to deal with these important changes? Alex Zhang will introduce latest China patent law developments and provide key patent considerations and strategies.
Speaker: Alex Zhang is a partner in the Chinese law firm of King & Wood at its Silicon Valley offices. He specializes in intellectual property law. He has substantial experience in intellectual property counseling, patent procurement and portfolio management, intellectual property licensing, dispute resolutions and other matters related to intellectual property rights. He regularly counsels clients on their intellectual property strategies in China. His technical practice covers electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, semiconductor processing, integrated circuits and more. Mr. Zhang has over 15 years of legal practice experience and joined King & Wood in 2001. He received his B.S. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Hangzhou Institute of Electronic Engineering, his M.S. degree in computer science from Beijing Technology and Business University, and his LL.M. degree focused on intellectual property law from Santa Clara University School of Law. Mr. Zhang was a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School conducting research on intellectual property laws and regulations. Mr. Zhang is admitted as Chinese lawyer, patent attorney and trademark attorney. He speaks extensively at international conferences and seminars about China’s intellectual property law and practices, including the U.S. Department of Commerce, California State Bar Annual Meetings, Boston Intellectual Property Law Association, Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association, Stanford Law School, Asia Society and others.
